2024 - MUD spazio creativo - Padova - ITALY

KIRI-fishes designed exclusively for MUD and created by cutting a single piece of paper, recovered from magazines and catalogues, applying an ancient technique called Kirigami.

The design of these fishes is an innovative and never before implemented application of the ancient Japanese technique. Each fish was digitally designed in order to overcome the two-dimensional nature of the original sheet of paper and become a 3D object, combining manual skill and craftsmanship with design and technology.

JELLOBLOOMS: A series of paper sculptures created by cutting sheets of repurposed wallpaper samples with a kirigami technique. When open they have various sizes in height and 50 cm diameter. When not hung, they return flat as the original sheet of wallpaper. The JELLOBLOOMS are creatures inspired by the marine world: they look like jellyfishes, unicellular organisms or like fishing pots. This ancient Japanese technique allows a flat sheet of paper to be transformed into a transparent “organism” that unfolds like the petals of a flower, making the observer reflect on the infinite possibilities for a material like paper to be reused.
